My name is Beth Mackle (she/her) and over the last four years I have been producing a variety of multimedia work spanning from designing comic books to amulets to short form films. During my fourth year, I have spent the last semester developing my narrative voice through various creative writing experiments. I transformed these prompts into visual narratives by means of storyboard. In the work published as part of work in progress, I have a taken a writing prompt about a typewriter and have interpreted it visually as a story around a rejection letter for a script being typed up.
When creating this ‘script’, I wanted to create a specific rhythm with the language that I could build visual metaphors on top of. With the moving image piece I have reoriented the narration from a retelling of the story to a text based monologue happening in real time. This reflects my influence from Fluxus performance with the repetitive action of the typewriter. This semester I shall build further on the narrative with storyboarding to create a more linear narrative and explore the rewriting process.
